Premeditatio malorum
Rehearse plausible setbacks in advance so they arrive as expected weather rather than ambush.
Use: Anticipatory anxiety, fragility, planning under uncertainty.
Boundary: Rehearsal is bounded and purposeful; open-ended rumination is not this discipline.

“When you wake up in the morning, tell yourself: The people I deal with today will be meddling, ungrateful, arrogant, dishonest, jealous, and surly. They are like this because they can’t tell good from evil. But I have seen the beauty of good, and the ugliness of evil, and have recognized that the wrongdoer has a nature related to my own; not of the same blood or birth, but the same mind, and possessing a share of the divine.”
“He robs present ills of their power who has perceived their coming beforehand.”
“Everyone approaches a danger with more courage if he has prepared in advance how to confront it. Anyone can endure difficulties better if he has previously practiced how to deal with them. People who are unprepared can be unhinged by even the smallest of things.”
